Purpose in Action

Our Impact

Our business depends on healthy soil, clean water and strong communities. See how we look after all three across our estates and mill, and how we report our progress every year.

Our Approach

Four pillars, one long view

Everything we make starts with healthy palms, clean water and good relationships with the people around us. We focus on the four areas where a coconut grower and oil maker can do the most good. Each pillar has clear goals, a senior leader who owns them and progress we report every year.

Pillar 01

Sustainable Farming

Living soil, steady replanting, mixed crops and room for wildlife on every estate.

Coconut husks and shells collected for reuse
Pillar 02

Responsible Production

Safe, consistent oil from a mill where every husk and shell is put to use.

Pillar 03

Healthier Planet

Mill heat from coconut biomass, careful use of water and fewer emissions.

Thriving Communities

Fair work, farmer training and support for the villages around our estates.

Pillar 01

Sustainable farming, from the soil up

A coconut palm can stay productive for generations, but only if the soil beneath it stays alive. We keep ground cover between the rows, return fronds and coir pith to the soil as mulch, and test every block so we feed the palms only what they need.

Ageing palms are replaced on a steady cycle with seedlings from our own nursery. Where the land allows, we grow other crops between the palms, which enriches the soil, gives our teams a second harvest and leaves room for birds, bees and other wildlife.

Visit our farms

Our commitments

  • Keep living ground cover between the rows on every estate
  • Soil-test every block each year and fertilize only where it's needed
  • Replace ageing palms on a steady cycle with seedlings from our own nursery
  • Grow other crops between the palms wherever the land suits it
  • Protect stream banks, hedgerows and patches of native forest

Pillar 02

Responsible production, with nothing wasted

Food safety and quality come first, every time. Our mill runs a certified food safety system, and our own lab checks every batch for moisture, free fatty acids and purity before it is released. Each batch can be traced back to the estate where its coconuts grew.

We use the whole coconut, too. Husks are spun into coir fibre, shells become charcoal, coconut water is collected rather than poured away, and the meal left after pressing goes to animal feed. Our aim is simple: nothing from the coconut ends up in landfill.

See our quality standards

Our commitments

  • Keep our mill certified to an internationally recognized food safety standard
  • Test every batch in our own lab before it leaves the mill
  • Trace every batch back to the estate block it came from
  • Turn husks into coir fibre and shells into charcoal
  • Send nothing from the coconut to landfill

Pillar 03

Energy from what the coconut leaves behind

Drying copra and refining oil take a lot of heat. Instead of burning fossil fuel for it, we fire our boilers and dryers with shell fragments, husk waste and other coconut biomass from our own operations, which cuts both our fuel use and our emissions.

We take the same care with water. We measure how much we use for every tonne of oil, treat and reuse wash water in the mill and collect rainwater on our estates. Every site has its own targets and a team responsible for meeting them.

Read our environmental policy

Our commitments

  • Fire our boilers and dryers with coconut biomass instead of fossil fuel
  • Measure the energy and water used for every tonne of oil we make
  • Treat and reuse wash water from the mill
  • Collect rainwater on our estates for nurseries and processing
  • Report our greenhouse gas emissions every year

Pillar 04

Thriving communities around our estates

Our estates sit among farming villages, and many of our people grew up in them. We pay fairly and on time, keep everyone safe at work and offer steady jobs through every season, not just at harvest.

Our support reaches beyond our own team. We share what we know with smallholder coconut farmers nearby, back local schools and clinics, and help families build a better living from the land around them.

Meet the Publica Foundation

Our commitments

  • Pay fair wages, in full and on time, to every worker
  • Provide safety gear, training and clean drinking water at every site
  • Hire locally first and help people build the skills to move up
  • Share better growing practices with smallholder farmers nearby
  • Support schools, clinics and clean water projects in neighboring villages

Giving Back

Publica Foundation

The Publica Foundation is our charitable arm. It helps the families and villages around our estates build a better future through three programs.

  • Community grants for projects that villages choose themselves, such as clean water, school repairs and health clinics.
  • Farmer training that shares nursery, intercropping and post-harvest skills with smallholder coconut growers.
  • Scholarships that help young people from estate families study agriculture, engineering and more.
